WZMH Architects approached the renewal of 20 King Street West with a welcome sense of restraint and confidence. Focused on the building’s principal entrance and lobby, the project demonstrates how a relatively modest intervention can have a significant impact on the experience of a place.
The redesigned entrance lends greater presence and clarity to the building’s address on King Street, while the lobby has been transformed into a calm, contemporary space that feels both generous and composed. A refined palette of materials, carefully integrated lighting, and thoughtful detailing combine to create an environment that is elegant without being ostentatious.
Rather than seeking attention through novelty, the design succeeds through its measured improvement of the everyday experience. The result is an entrance sequence that is welcoming, dignified, and entirely appropriate to its prominent downtown setting.
