Mariner’s Pier, Orillia
MEP designs with continuity and restraint to create a successful waterfront edge
Set at the narrow channel between Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching, Mariner’s Pier is a compact waterfront development that relies on site strategy to hold it together. MEP Design’s landscape design does most of that work.
The project is defined by its waterfront edge, a continuous designed space for movement and pause. A children’s play area, fire pit, and seating nodes are spaced along it, creating a steady rhythm of use. You move along the water, not just to it. That’s what gives the project its identity, making it feel like a small marina community rather than buildings near the shoreline.
The planting is tough, wind-tolerant, and low maintenance. It reads more like a managed shoreline than a designed garden, which suits the site.
What stands out is the restraint. A few clear moves are carried through consistently, and that discipline is what makes the project work.
